Self and Seaglass

It is on the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard that I discovered the simple beauty of seaglass.  While doing my photography assignment recently for Picture Summer, I realize why these little shards of glass resonate with me so much.  They symbolize my life’s journey.

Long ago, someone threw away a glass bottle that they thought was trash.  This bottle got tossed in the waves, caught in the undertow, smashed on the rocks, and slowly worn down.  After years of struggle, the pieces that remain are still glass but they have been permanently changed.  The sharp edges are gone and a soft patina has developed.  One day, this new creation washed up on shore and waited for that special someone who would cherish it and rejoice in it’s true beauty.

Thank you Chris for taking the time to pick me up and put me in your pocket. I love you.
